Joe Hollingsworth Jr. never pictured himself as a c-store operator. He got his start developing residential and commercial properties in his hometown of Clinton, TN. “I just wanted to be a nice ol’ landlord”, he smiles.
But in 1974, when Hollingsworth built and leased a c-store for a local business owner, the lease called for The Hollingsworth Companies to acquire the store and assets if the operator defaulted. “September 1st, we got a call”, says Hollingsworth. “The lessee had grabbed the register and left town.”
To avoid losses (“A closed store dies very quickly,” he says), Hollingsworth ran over and opened up the store, using a shoebox for a cash register.
By 1984, Git’N Go was 4 stores strong and a big part of the community and offered everything, from gasoline to groceries.
In the last 10 years, we have rebuilt the stores to better serve our loyal Anderson County friends and customers. These state of the art facilities have drive-thrus, full delis, and we take pride in having the friendliest teammates around.
We have separated ourselves from our competition through our delicious food service offerings by being voted Anderson County’s best place for a hot dog several times throughout the years. If you are in a hurry try a fresh salad or sandwich from our fast-grab case, they’re made fresh 3 times a day. We pride ourselves with our coffee and cappuccino always being “fresh or it’s free”.
